2018 Grant Recipients

STEP-STUDENT EXPEDITION PROGRAM
1st Year Grant-$15,000

Agency Background:  STEP equips low-income students with the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills to successfully transition to college and attain a four-year degree.

Focus of the 2018 SCCF Grant: STEP students begin attending our workshops upon admission to our program during their sophomore year of high school and continue until all college applications’ deadlines have past. Some workshops included topics such as:  presentation skills, resume writing, interview techniques, time management, building a college list, financial aid and scholarships 101, steps to success, college-level writing, mastering the college admissions’ interview, and evaluating a financial aid offer.

Measurable Results: The program is evaluated each year:

  • Percentage of STEP students who graduate high school.
  • Percentage of students who enroll in college directly after high school.
  • Percentage of STEP alumni attending college.
  • Percentage of alumni with a college degree.

Since the start of our college prep program, 98% of students have entered college directly out of high school and are on track to graduate.
