2018 Grant Recipients
MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS (MWFB)
10th Year Grant-$6,000
Agency Background: MWFB was incorporated as a non-profit organization in March 1998. Its mission is to promote early literacy in limited resource areas of southern Arizona by providing children (birth – 5 yrs) with an opportunity to fall in love with books and reading. The vision is that all children will enter school with the early literacy skills necessary to be successful.
Focus of the 2018 SCCF Grant: Stone Canyon Story Hour This grant continues to provide Story Hour throughout the year, thereby reaching more than 671 children and their families annually. As the main funder of this project, the program is named Stone Canyon Story Hour and all books provided through the program are stamped with the Stone Canyon Community Foundation logo. This is an ongoing grant which may be terminated at any time by SCCF. MWFB need not reapply every year, only a “follow up” report is required each year to be sent to the SCCF Grants Committee.
Measurable Results: As a result of Stone Canyon Story Hour the following outcomes have been achieved:
- As of July 2017, 783 young children gained access to high-quality early learning experiences.
- 678 parents and caregivers participated in the program.
- Support from SCFF allowed MWFB to provide Story Hour, Babytime, and Saturday Story Hour.
