2017 Grant Recipients
TMM Family Services – 2nd Year Grant-$20,000
Agency Background: TMM Family Services, Inc. began in 1974, as a social services outreach of various local churches, United Way and other entities. Instrumental in the development and growth of organizations such as the Community Food Bank, Miracle Square apartment and Travelers Aid; TMM Family Services today is a nonprofit faith based entity serving all those in need without discrimination.
Focus of the 2017 Grant: The Children’s Learning Center Educational Summer Camp Provides after school support and tutoring to foster children residing on site at TMM’s Children’s Village. K-5th grade students come to the center directly after school and receive one on one tutoring and homework help. Students in the 6th-8th grade have access to computers for homework projects and other learning opportunities, and as needed, specialized tutoring instruction. The Children’s Learning Center serves an average of 125 unduplicated students each year (due to turnover of children residing at the Children’s Village). A new partnership beginning in Jan. 2017, with Literacy Connects will provide literacy training and certification to all TMM staff who work at the Learning Center as well as to all Center volunteers.
- 40% improvement in school attendance.
- 10% improvement in academic performance
- 40% reduction in negative behavior at the Center.
- Academic success will be supported through attendance at educational summer programs and school attendance and behavior will be supported as well – children will not be eligible for summer programs unless they meet school attendance and behavior benchmarks
