2017 Grant Recipients

IMAGO DEI MIDDLE SCHOOL-6th Year Grant-$20,000

Agency Background: Imago Dei Middle School, established in 2005, serves boys and girls in the 5th – 8th grades from families with low income, residing in Tucson. The school focuses on educating the whole child and breaking cycles of poverty. The criteria for admission is based on students qualifying for Federal Government Free/Reduced Lunch Program.

Students are selected to attend using a lottery system. The school operates as a tuition-free school; therefore, donor support is essential. The school session for all grades is ten hours per day, 5.5 days per week and eleven months per year. The teacher-to-student ratio is never greater than 1 teacher per 10 pupils.   The cost per student is $17,000.

Focus of 2017 Grant: Graduate Support Program Funding will support partial funding of the Graduate Support Program which must continue to grow along with their roster of alumni. Children at Imago Dei benefit from a GSP bi weekly class that gets them thinking about and planning for the future. In 8th grade, GSP staff help students select the right high school and take them on school visits. ID stays in touch with all alumni after graduation, and continues to provide them with practical assistance, as needed, in navigating the challenges of high school and the intricacies of applying to training programs and colleges.

Measurable Results: 100% of Imago Dei alumni will proceed to the high school of their choice, with more than 60% having a private school option. More than 90% will graduate and most will go on to college or career training.
