2016 Grant Recipients
MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS (MWFB)-8th Year Funding-$6,000
Diamond Family Fund Match: $2,500
Agency Background: MWFB was incorporated as a non-profit organization in March 1998. Its mission is to promote early literacy in limited resource areas of southern Arizona by providing children (birth – 5 yrs) with an opportunity to fall in love with books and reading. The vision is that all children will enter school with the early literacy skills necessary to be successful.
Focus of the 2016 SCCF Grant: Stone Canyon Story Hour This grant would provide Story Hour throughout the year, thereby reaching more than 500 children and their families annually. As the main funder of this project, the program would be named Stone Canyon Story Hour and all books provided through the program would be stamped with the Stone Canyon Community Foundation logo. This will be an ongoing grant which may be terminated at any time by SCCF. MWFB need not reapply every year, only a “follow up” report will be required each year to be sent to the SCCF Grants Committee.
Measurable Results: As a result of Stone Canyon Story Hour the following outcomes will be achieved:
- 500 young children will gain access to high-quality early learning experiences.
- 90% of participating parents/caregivers will increase the time they spend reading with their young children.
- 85% of parents/caregivers will gain skills, knowledge, and confidence to support their children’s emergent literacy and language development.
