EL GRUPO YOUTH CYCLING-4th Year Grant-$5,520
Agency Background: El Grupo is a youth cycling organization that provides youth with experiences that are fun, skill-building and bike-centered, so that they can acquire the self-confidence and leadership skills to be active and healthy members of the community. Our mission is to empower youth through bicycles.
Focus of 2016 Grant: Team El Grupo: Youth Leadership & Cycling Development. Team El Grupo has grown to include 7 day a week programs. We hold practices 5 times per week, academic hours, and mechanic hours, plus outside outreach events, races and adventures for youth aged 8-20. Youth spend an average of 50 hours/month engaged in leadership and cycling development.
1n 2016, we would like to offer sessions to our kids (age 15+) that focus on career planning and counseling. With this grant, we can hire and coordinate the appropriate training and/or employment of counselors within the field, as well as schedule workshops, lectures and presentations for the kids.
Measurable Results: 100% go on to college and 100% of youth age 15+ are employed as “Youth Bike Ambassadors” through Pima County.
