2015 Grant Recipients

4 th Year Funding

Agency Background: Our Family Services began as a Family Counseling Agency in 1953, and today is a blended family of nonprofit organizations and services that have joined together over time to better serve the Tucson community. They have two program areas: “New Beginnings” and “Strong Communities”. “New Beginning’s” programs offer crisis assistance and opportunities to build new lives for homeless children, youth and families. “Strong Communities” helps at-risk children choose healthy behaviors, low-income elderly to remain independent, and families in crisis to remain intact. In 2011 Our Family provided direct care services to more than 9,400 individuals in Pima County.

Focus of 2015 Grant: Homeless Youth Project The goal of Homeless Youth Services is to lift youth out of a situation of desperation and despair, and give them the resources, support and guidance they need to care for themselves and their children for the remainder of their lives. The grant will provide homeless youth (ages 14-21) with a full continuum of services (shelter-food-academic help, etc.) for up to 2 years. The primary sources of funding are multi-year government grants and contracts. In order to keep these funds, Our Family needs to secure more than $158,000 to meet the required match. Funding from SCCF will help to meet these requirements as well as fulfilling needs of homeless youth not addressed by other funders.

Measurable Results: 80% of homeless youth demonstrated improved self-sufficiency and quality of life as measured by the matrix. 58% of youth moved on to permanent housing after leaving the program. An additional 8 were not yet ready for full independence and were assisted in enrolling in another supportive program upon exit.
