2015 Grant Recipients
MAKE WAY FOR BOOKS (MWFB)
7th Year Funding
Diamond Family Fund Match
Agency Background: MWFB was incorporated as a non-profit organization in March 1998. Its mission is to promote early literacy in limited resource areas of southern Arizona by providing children (birth – 5 yrs) with an opportunity to fall in love with books and reading. The vision is that all children will enter school with the early literacy skills necessary to be successful.
Focus of the 2015 SCCF Grant: Neighborhood School Readiness Project MWFB will saturate the neighborhood surrounding the Tucson Unified School District Myers-Ganoung Elementary School with early literacy programs for children (birth to 5). MWFB will provide high-quality early literacy opportunities within low-resource preschools and provide children without access with opportunities to develop early literacy skills through community-based programming.
Measurable Results: Based on past program results, it is anticipated at 100% of teachers will gain more knowledge and skills to support the children in their care. It is anticipated that 98% of families will establish a daily reading routine with their children. More families in the Myers-Ganoung neighborhood will feel connected to their neighborhood school and will be better prepared for their child’s transition to kindergarten.
