Agency Background: El Grupo was founded in 2004 with the mission to empower youth through bicycles by instilling life-long healthy habits, and building character and camaraderie through bike riding, racing and outreach. Emphasis is on personal and social responsibility. Participants are required to submit quarterly report cards and U of A students offer tutoring and mentoring to struggling students. 100% go on to college and 100%, ages 15+ are employed as “Youth Bike Ambassadors” through Pima County.

Focus of 2015 Grant: Team El Grupo: Youth Leadership & Cycling Development The grant enables El Grupo to provide a more holistic education focused after school program by adding structured tutoring hours for youth riders, called Academic Support Hours. El Grupo extended their mission of youth empowering youth by creating a cycle of “giving back” and support, both on and off the bicycle. SCCF enables El Grupo to grow the number of alumni not only graduating from high school and attending college, but also attaining scholarships to assist them. In 2012, El Grupo supported our first ever youth to gain a cycling scholarship to attend Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, the premier collegiate cycling team in the nation.

Measurable Results: 100% go on to college and 100% youth ages 15+ are employed as “Youth Bike Ambassadors” through Pima County.
