2015 Grant Recipients

2nd Year Grant

Agency Background: EEF was founded in l983 to provide resources for students in need within the TUSD. Their mission is providing resources to expand and enrich student learning within the TUSD.

Focus of 2015 Grant: Interscholastic Scholarships: Provides in-need TUSD high school students the opportunity to enrich their core curricula with extracurricular activities. Implemented in 1992 after funding cuts forced AZ districts to charge activity fees, it awards scholarships, enabling students to compete on sports teams or perform in fine arts groups such as band and orchestra. The program also serves as an academic achievement and graduation incentive program by encouraging students to maintain the required 2.5 GPA to be eligible for EEF’s assistance. The required $50- $65 fee for a high school student to participate on a sports team, fine arts, band or orchestra, is prohibitive for the approximately 73% of TUSD high school students living in poverty.

Measurable Results: For the last three years, EEF was able to reach two thirds of the graduating seniors and each year the survey revealed that over 96% of the graduating seniors who received fee scholarships graduated, compare to the 75-77% TUSD graduation rate.
