Agency Background: The mission is to prevent child abuse and strengthen families. Established in 1990 Parent Aid targets at-risk children with an emphasis on children of teen mothers, single parents and families in distress. Children are identified by their behavioral and performance problems in school and referred to Parent Aid. A visit is made to the home to evaluate and develop a customized program. The measurement tool used for all families covers a 17 criteria assessment for improvement called “Target Family Outcomes”.

Focus of the 2014 SCCF Grant: Parenting Up Program The proposed project is an extension of Parent Aid’s flagship Parent Partners program. The Parenting Up Program is purposed with building upon the foundational work conducted in the Parent Parners program while targeting children ages 6-13. Parenting Up employs the same nationally recognized and evidence-based SafeCare practices for families with children dealing with the volatile issues endemic to 6-13 year old. Parenting Up will place special emphasis on:

  • Developing/reinforcing protective factors
  • Supporting school success
  • Improving parenting skills
  • Educating parents on healthy and realistic expectations they can convey to their children
  • Providing character education
  • Addressing “Tween” social issues.
