2014 GRANT AWARD RECIPIENTS
EDUCATION ENRICHMENT FOUNDATION
1st Year Funding
Agency Background: EEF was founded in l983 to provide resources for students in need within the TUSD. Their mission is providing resources to expand and enrich student learning within the TUSD.
Focus of the 2014 SCCF Grant: Interscholastic Scholarships: Provides in-need TUSD high school students the opportunity to enrich their core curricula with extracurricular activities. Implemented in 1992 after funding cuts forced AZ districts to charge activity fees, it awards scholarships, enabling students to compete on sports teams or perform in fine arts groups such as band. The program also serves as an academic achievement and graduation incentive program by encouraging students to maintain the required 2.5 GPA to be eligible for EEF’s assistance. The required $65 fee for a high school student to participate on a sports team, or the $50 fee for students to participate in fine arts extra-curricular activities including band and orchestra, is prohibitive for the approximately 73% of TUSD high school students living in poverty. Some high schools cannot field an entire team without EEF’s help paying the participation fees.
