2013 GRANT AWARD RECIPIENTS
PARENT AID CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION CENTER
3rd Year Funding
Agency Background: The mission is to prevent child abuse and strengthen families. Established in 1990 Parent Aid targets at-risk children with an emphasis on children of teen mothers, single parents and families in distress. Children are identified by their behavioral and performance problems in school and referred to Parent Aid. A visit is made to the home to evaluate and develop a customized program. There is a measurement tool used for all families covering 17 criteria assessed for improvement. It is called Target Family Outcomes.
Focus of the 2013 SCCF Grant: Parenting Up Program The recent economic stress many families face has resulted in increased child abuse and neglect. While State & Federal funding focuses primarily on families with children 0-5 age or with children in high school, budget cuts have particularly impacted families with children 6 – 13. The Parenting Up program focuses on improving parenting skills, addressing “Tween” social issues, developing/reinforcing positive behaviors, and educating parents on healthy and realistic expectations. At least 50% of those families will come from the North Pima region.
