Agency BackgroundMWFB was incorporated as a non-profit organization in March 1998. Its mission is to promote early literacy in limited resource areas of southern Arizona by providing children (birth – 5 yrs) with an opportunity to fall in love with books and reading. The vision is that all children will enter school with the early literacy skills necessary to be successful.
Focus of the 2013 SCCF Grant: MWFB Preschool Program: Sharing Stories Changing Lives
MWFB’s Sharing Stories Changing Lives is an early literacy program designed to provide low income pre-school children with weekly storytimes and access to books. Children who read at an early age have been found to have better language comprehension and cognitive development. MWFB plans to expand this program to serve 45-50 sites throughout Tucson.
