Agency Background: Our Family Services was incorporated as Our Town Family Center in 1979 and renamed following the merger with another long-standing nonprofit in 2005. The merger with yet another nonprofit, New Beginnings, will take place in 2012. At the heart of the mission is the Homeless Youth Services program which helps 2,500 homeless and near-homeless youth 13-21 stay in school and gain the skills they need to achieve independence through case management, counseling, education and career planning, housing and help with basic needs. The services include a brief-stay crisis shelter for runaways and/or foster youth under 18.

Focus of the 2012 SCCF Grant: Homeless Youth Services The grant will help leverage $100,000 in federal funding and provide up to 14 homeless youth with a full continuum of services for an entire year, including emergency shelter; longer-term housing; basic needs such as food, clothing, hygiene, education and employment programs. These intensive services are provided at an annual cost of $1200 per youth. Only 18% of funds will support administrative costs.
