1st Year Funding
Agency Background: The mission of Gabriel’s Angels is to deliver healing pet therapy to at-risk children, nurturing their emotional development and enhancing the quality of their lives. The Pet Therapy Program began in Maricopa County in 2000 and expanded to Tucson in 2007. Volunteer Therapy Teams visit crisis nurseries, domestic violence and homeless shelters, group homes and at-risk children in after school programs. The intervention in children’s lives is to break the cycle of violence and /or enhance their emotional behavioral development.
Focus of the 2012 SCCF Grant: Tucson Pet Therapy ProgramThe program currently has 42 Therapy Teams providing services to 30 Southern Arizona agencies. This grant will be used to recruit, place and train two Therapy Teams and provide services to over 200 at-risk children in Pima County. It costs approximately $2,500 to put in place one team for one year.
