NEW BEGINNINGS FOR WOMEN & CHILDREN
Agency Background: New Beginnings for Women & Children services all of southern Arizona, although most clients come from Pima County. All clients are homeless women with children below the poverty line. In November 2008, a Jump Start module was integrated into the programs at the Shelter (90-day program). Jump Start is a two week program.
Focus of the 2010 SCCF Grant: Jump Start The funding will support the Jump Start program. Of the 107 families in the shelter over a 12 month period, 80% needed Jump Start to find a job. The case manager at the shelter teaches the client how to prepare a master resume, interview skills, how to dress, work on computer skills and how to research jobs on-line. The two week program offers five hours of intensive instruction and individual monitoring.
